The Signature Gallery Gets Ready to Open Its Container Gallery in Kigali
The Signature Gallery (TSG) is preparing to open a new art space in Kigali, built from shipping containers and featuring a 395-square-metre gallery section.
The development will include a private lounge and space for education and exhibition showcases, bringing several sides of gallery life under one roof.
The gallery section will be the heart of the project. Alongside it, the educational space will give TSG room to connect exhibitions with learning, while the private lounge will offer a quieter place for conversation.
Its container construction gives the building a character of its own. Materials usually associated with transport and storage are being used to create a place for art, a choice that makes the architecture part of the story.
TSG says the development is set to become the largest container art gallery in Africa and the second largest in the world, after the GAD gallery designed by MMW Architects in Norway. That ranking has yet to be independently confirmed.
For TSG, the opening will mark an expansion in both space and purpose. The project brings together room to exhibit, room to learn and room to gather, with art at the centre of it all.
