The Work
About the work
Artist TSG
A child sleeps because someone else is keeping watch. The elder’s arms make that trust visible, while the deep blue surrounds them like the long hours of a night spent caring for another person. THE PROMISE speaks to parents, grandparents and anyone who has accepted responsibility for a life more vulnerable than their own. It recalls the feedings, journeys, interrupted sleep and private worries through which love becomes dependable. The future in this painting is small enough to hold. The promise is to remain present until it can stand without you.
