The Work
About the work
Artist TSG
A hat on a hook or a familiar shirt can bring someone back more quickly than a photograph. ABSENCE builds a figure from those recognisable details and leaves the face in darkness. Its story considers the way memory gathers around ordinary objects: what someone wore, how they entered a room, the outline seen from behind. The missing features make the viewer’s own associations part of the encounter. Whether the separation is temporary or lasting, the image understands a private truth: presence does not always disappear when a person is no longer standing in front of us.
